Skin moles along with their different types:

Are you wondering what moles on skin are? As you go on, you will be able to find, what you are looking for.

All moles should not be presumed as cancerous. In fact most of the skin moles are of the benign type. Moles are commonly either dysplastic nevi or congenital moles. Congenital nevi and benign moles are other types.

In some people, the moles present are called atypical moles. Meanwhile, melanoma moles are also frequently seen.

Are you familiar with red moles?

Red moles have a blood red tinge. They can lead to much irritation. They are deemed to be one of the more dangerous types of skin moles since they can lead to skin cancer. Atypical moles and congenital moles are considered to be the types of skin moles that could bring a lot of harm to a person. When you perform a case study of type of people having melanoma, you will find that these people might be having either congenital moles or the atypical ones. This alone is an indication of the risks posed by having these types of skin moles on your body.

While it is true that moles appear at the point of birth, other moles can also appear during your lifetime. Do not worry too much if the number of moles in your body remains constant. From time to time, you may notice your moles undergoing uncharacteristic changes with respect to their elevation, size, shape and color. You should approach a dermatologist about this immediately. You will be in danger of spending so much more if you don't act now.

Laser surgery and cryotherapy are good options since there aren't too many side effects.

The different types of moles can be classified based on the color, symmetry or size. Evolution is also used to classify them. The usual height of moles is less than 5 to 6 mm. If it is more than 7 mm, then you surely need to meet a doctor. If the moles continue to grow further, in terms of height and size then you are at a serious risk of getting skin cancer. A frequent change in color is also an alarming symptom. The diameter of the skin moles is also important. At the hint of any abnormalities, be more and more vigilant. Give your moles close scrutiny each day. The rate of increase in diameter might alarm you. Further examination will be required to determine the stage of melanoma. Advanced stages would require you to be admitted for treatment pronto.

The danger of a mole is also determined by its border. Usually the mole color will match with the border color. If it is not matching, then this is also a symptom of cancer. If there are pink borders on a brown mole and they are unusually thick, you should be wary.

Moles> are commonly round or oval. A mole that has an odd triangular or some other shape should not be immediately presumed to denote melanoma.

Size, color and frequency of skin moles

Fair-skinned people are the ones who commonly get Skin moles. Moles usually form when melanocytes group together in the form of a cluster. Some moles will be present right from birth, while some other moles will develop during later phases of your life. There will be around ten to forty moles per person and it is usually located in areas exposed to sun light.

Statistics show that, in America alone, more than three hundred Americans have moles. These common moles are called nevi. Similarly the number of Americans with dysplastic nevus is around one in ten people. This will be close to thirty million people. This is not an alarming fact. The fact that nearing seventy thousand people develop melanoma in a year is a matter of great concern. The danger of melanoma is high because it is metastatic. Thus your lungs, bones and kidneys can also get affected. The earlier you detect, the safer is your health condition.

You will have no other option, when you have been diagnosed with melanoma. You must have those skin moles removed through surgical procedures. Melanoma is found in both men and women, though in different parts of their body. In women, it mainly appears in the lower part of the legs. The neck and back region is the usual place for men to have melanoma. Melanoma rarely affects people with dark complexion. When they do get it, however, they are found under the toes or the soles of the feet. Two in ten thousand Americans experience this skin problem. Melanoma has inflicted itself upon eight lakh Americans to date.

Can a layman find the difference between a common mole and melanoma?

The distinction can be found in the color and size of the skin moles. The width of melanoma can reach around six mm. This is larger than the size of a normal pencil eraser. Dysplastic nevus is around five mm wide. Although larger than melanoma, dysplastic nevi are benign. On the other hand, normal moles reach half an inch in width. They can also be as wide as three to four inches.

You can easily identify a melanoma, as it normally has an uneven color distribution. The shades of color will vary. The colors could vary from black, brown, blue, grey, pink and white. Dysplastic nevus will be having shades of brown, pink and red color. Nevus, however, will only have one color. Normally, you will see them in shades of brown or black. Those moles that are highly pigmented will be complete black in color. The color of a normal skin mole is somewhat closer to the skin tone of each person. The contour of melanoma is blurred. They will normally be four mm wide and will grow even larger as the skin cancer becomes worse.

Moles are not threatening. They do not have to be mandatorily removed. However, they may cause social awkwardness to some people. This might lead to lack of confidence. Some cultures in the world consider moles to be beauty marks, provided they appear on certain spots of the body. Everybody desires to be perfect.

Possible Benefits To At-Home Mole Remover Methods

People who are born with moles, or develop them later in life, sometimes want to get rid of them. Often, people like to get rid of them without having a doctor do it, for financial or personal reasons. Sometimes this can be accomplished with an at-home mole remover, but not always.

Moles are natural, benign growths that many people are born with. Some moles develop later in life and they can be triggered by sun exposure. Moles are benign, but it is possible to confuse them with certain types of skin cancer. In order to keep this possibility on top, most doctors recommend you get any moles that change shape, size, or color checked out by a dermatologist.

Some moles are raised bumps, some are completely flat and others stick out a lot. For the at-home removal of the types that stick out, most people swear by dental floss. The floss is tied tightly around the mole and after a few days, it dries up and falls off. If this practice is going to be used, it is very important that everything be clean. Some swelling is normal before drying and falling off.

Most other methods of removal are topical. These are usually skin irritants that cause a scab to form. When the scab falls off, the mole goes with it. Many doctors are not in favor of this method of removing moles, because it usually requires scratching or cutting the skin, which can cause infection if not done carefully.

Using a skin irritant method can also leave pits or scars when the scab falls off. In some cases, these can be permanent. However, medical processes used to remove moles also have these issues, so they are usually not a sufficient reason to avoid the process. However, everyone should consider whether they would rather have the moles or potential scars, before they seek any kind of treatment.

Commercial skin irritant creams that remove moles, as well as skin tags and warts, are widely available. Many people find them successful, but a few find they do not work. Re-growth is common because moles are often embedded deeper in the skin than they appear, but again, this is a problem found with both traditional medical and at-home treatment methods.

It isn't necessary to purchase a specialized cream however. Many people find success with other types of skin irritants when used in the same manner, applied to scratched skin over the surface of the moles. The most commonly used substances are apple cider vinegar and garlic, although unique options such as dandruff shampoo are also sometimes suggested.

Any time that a mole remover requires the skin be scratched or broken, care must be taken to let infection take hold. Using clean, sterile equipment is thus essential. This can be accomplished by sticking a needle in a flame for a moment and cleaning the skin with alcohol. However, not even taking precautions will prevent every possible infection, so keep an eye on the area for redness, swelling, pus and other negative signs.
